Buying On Margin
Buying on margin is the purchase of an asset by paying the margin and borrowing the balance from a bank or broker. Buying on margin refers to the initial or down payment made to the broker for the asset being purchased; the collateral for the borrowed funds is the marginable securities in the investor's account. Before buying on margin, an investor needs to open a margin account with the broker. Speculative Realism Pathfinder
This guide was created to help students, faculty, and other interested parties find materials related to the emerging school of philosophical thought known as Speculative Realism. I have linked most of the items listed in the Fundamental Texts section to their Google Books entry in an attempt to make this guide useful to all; Google Books lists the prices of various book retailers and has a "Find in a Library" link which can be used to find a freely-available copy near you. The Garden of Cosmic Speculation
Image Credit Flickr User Paulus Maximus! Open to the public only one day a year, the Garden of Cosmic Speculation takes science and maths as its inspiration. Quite simply, there isn’t another garden like it in the world. Image Credit Wikimedia The shapes of science and nature come together in this wondrous place. The steel curves of science stand in front of those provided so generously by nature. Yet in a small time you can find yourself face to face with the wonders of a black hole. Gold price to end 2015 at $1,250 per ounce, silver $18
The gold price will end next year at $1,250, with the negative impact of the US interest-rate rises in the second half of the year likely to keep prices above $1,100, Commerzbank said. “We expect the gold price to remain under pressure initially in the first half of next year on the back of growing speculation about increasingly imminent interest rate hikes in the US,” the bank said in a note today. “The gold price is likely to bottom out at the onset of the cycle of rate hikes in the second quarter,” it added. Spot gold was last around $1,200 per ounce, down significantly from a 2014 peak of $1,388 in March and up from four-year lows at $1,131.
What does a tax on Wall Street speculation mean (Bernie Sanders)?
Wall Street is, as you probably know, the hub of buying and selling stocks in the US market. People who own stocks often want to make money on them quickly, rather than holding them for investment purposes. When they are after quick money, they often gamble. That gambling is called speculation. A speculator aims to buy a stock that will soon rise considerably in price, so that he can then sell at a profit. Or if he expects a stock to drop in price, he "sells short," a device that enables him to borrow and sell stock he does not own, and to make a profit if the price falls soon enough and far enough.
